Hörgshlíð thermal spring

Close to a local farm right by the sea, you’ll find a small semi-deserted rectangle pool. The pool is privately owned by the local farmers, but the occasional passer-by is welcome to enjoy the relaxing hot water – just make sure to ask permission from the owners first, their farm is about a kilometre away. However, if there is no one home, you are free to use the pool regardless.

Krossnes thermal spring

You’ve reached the end of the road. It’s hard to find a place accessible by car any more remote than Norðurfjörður. This tiny village is home the gorgeous Krossneslaug, a geothermal outdoor pool built in the 1950s right by the sea. Leave your entrance fee in the old cash box in the changing room.

Take a break and go for a dip! A secluded swimming pool and natural hot spring in a peaceful cove. The site has basic changing facilities and a toilet. There’s a small coin box attached to the wall – the pool runs on donations, so make sure you have some change with you. Behind the main pool, near the parking area, you’ll find a natural hot spring. Just follow the steam.

Hidden gem: hot spring on the sea shore

This hot spring offers breathtaking scenes and brilliant contrasting vistas. Krosslaug is an old pool built in 1948 by the local youth association. The pool (4 x 13 meters, depth 1–2 meters) was used for swimming lessons for the people who lived in the area. The temperature of the pool is around 37°C. Near the seashore, there is a small natural “hot tub” with the same temperature as the concrete pool. Enjoy!

Natural hot spring by the sea

Take a spa break on the southern coast of the Westfjords. Pack a towel, put on your bathing suit and head to the hot pool. Hellulaug is a natural spring so the bottom might be a little uneven. Amazing views to the sea. No changing facilities on site. Remember to take your rubbish with you when you leave.
