Perfect waffles in a small farmstead

A unique café set in an old Icelandic farmstead – the original peat hut dates back to the 1800s. Exceptional surroundings, gorgeous nature and delicious waffles. A perfect pit stop! Open only in the summer time.

Tjöruhúsið

A summer restaurant specialised in different fried fish dishes. The menu changes depending on the fishermen’s catch. The butter fried cod cheeks, or ‘gellur’, topped with parsley are divine. This buffet style restaurant is very popular and people travel from far to eat here – it’s worth booking a table in advance.

Heimabyggð

Heimabyggð is an environmentally conscious café in the heart of Ísafjörður. The café has a cheery and colourful charm to it that envelops you in the scent of newly baked bread, other baked goods and quality coffee from the moment you open the doors. The menu offers a variety of vegetarian and also vegan options.

Cafe Riis

Holmavik is known for its museum of sorcery and witchcraft. After learning about witches, drop in to Café Riis for their delicious pizzas. Café Riis acts as the village hub, where people come together on weekends and summer evenings to have drinks, chats, and enjoy live music.

Kaffihús Bakarans

This lovely bakery serves fresh bread and pastries for the people of Ísafjörður. Come for breakfast or have some to take away. We recommend ‘kleinur’, the traditional Icelandic pastries. ‘Kleina’ is like a knot shaped doughnut, without the sugary icing. Delicious! Another good choice is ‘vínarbrauð’, a long Danish pastry topped with jam and almond paste.

Hamraborg grill

American style restaurant offering with a vegan burger and sandwich. Open every day from early morning to late night. The Hamraborg shop has been a feature of Ísafjörður since it opened in 1968. Since 2000, it has been run by brothers Gísli and Úlfur Úlfarsson.
